Oh my, but what can be done?

Shoes in crisis, sandals with straps broken
through wear and rot from ocean water
But favoured above all others
for the stupidity of, but always so,
how things always mean so much,
how things we own replace our touch,
how things we know induce such
feeling…

The great right whale
broke the border
between gray cold ocean
and gray cold sky
at once
knocked us back
and up
and our dory was
a peanut shell
in a child’s bath

no —
that was a peanut shell
I was the child
it was my bath

Oh my, what can be done?

With no potatoes, the stew
becomes a lank soup
like a pot already in the wash.
Serve the guests onions dry fried
and croute de beurre – et l’ail, s’il vous plait,
I’m sure there’s something across the way,
something that will be ok
with dried bread…
